A Message from Dr Derrick Kuan

Dear Patient,

I am writing to share some personal news regarding my medical practice. After many rewarding years working as a General Practitioner here in Clarkson, I have made the decision to practice closer to my home in order to better support my family.

Reflections on Our Journey

Since starting work at Ocean Keys Family Practice (and for some even before), I believe that my career has been defined by a relationships. One of the most significant lessons I have learned is that being a doctor is less about having all the answers (none of us do) and more about being present for the person sitting across from me.

I have truly valued the personal connections we have established. It has been a privilege to see the "person behind the complaint" and to be invited into your unique story. These human connections are what have made my work so rich and satisfying, and I am deeply grateful for the trust you have placed in me.

It is with some sadness that I shall be saying goodbye to some of you.

Next Steps

While I am looking forward to being closer to my family, it is difficult to leave a community I have cared for so deeply.

  • Date: I will be reducing my practice on August 3. I will still continue to work at Ocean Keys Family Practice for one and a half days a week for the time being and I will continue to be available for telephone consultation for some time afterwards.

  • Your Records: Your medical records will remain securely at this practice to ensure your continuity of care. The team here is excellent, and I have full confidence in my colleagues to continue supporting your health journey.

  • Ongoing Care: If you wish to have your records transferred to a different clinic, please speak with our administrative staff, who can assist you with the necessary paperwork.

Final Thoughts

I believe that the world has a habit of changing us through experience, provided we choose to listen to the lessons it offers. My time here has taught me a great deal about our shared humanity, and I will carry those lessons with me into this next chapter of my life.

Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your health journey. I wish you and your family continued health and happiness.

Best regards,

Dr. Derrick Kuan General Practitioner
